Mark the occasion after the holidays. A large gathering to denounce the immigration law is being prepared, at the initiative of the CGT, franceinfo learned on Friday December 22 from consistent sources. Two dates have been brought forward: Sunday January 14 or January 21. The union intends to rely on an appeal launched by 50 political, union and cultural figures. The names of the former Defender of Rights Jacques Toubon and Jean-Luc Mélenchon are mentioned by these same sources.
The general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, called on RMC on Thursday to “civil disobedience and the multiplication of resistance actions against this law” which “deeply calls into question all our republican principles”. With more than a hundred public figures, she co-signed a column published Thursday by the newspaper Humanity with a message intended for Emmanuel Macron: “Do not promulgate this dangerous text!”
The immigration law, adopted Tuesday by Parliament, is a “a real stepping stone to the nationalist ideology of the extreme right”deplore the signatories of this forum. “By instilling the xenophobic poison of national preference, by calling into question the rights of the soil, he flouts the principles of equality and non-discrimination, the basis of our fraternal democracy”write the actors Eric Cantona, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Laure Calamy and the Nobel Prize winner for literature Annie Ernaux.
“The president still has the capacity to interrupt this disastrous march”
After a first meeting on Wednesday, the day after the adoption of the law, “unions and associations will meet on January 11, to continue this dynamic of coming together”according to a press release signed by around forty organizations including the CFDT, the CGT, Médecins du monde, Emmaüs, the Human Rights League. “The President of the Republic still has, in his hands, the capacity to interrupt this disastrous march. This is why we solemnly ask him to take stock of the extent of the disorder and the social and democratic crisis that this law would aggravate and postpone its promulgation”we can read in this press release relayed in particular by the general secretary of the CFDT, Marylise Léon.
Furthermore, 32 departments led by the left announced their refusal to toughen the conditions for payment of the personalized autonomy allowance (APA) to foreigners, as provided for in the adopted law.
