The Buitoni factory in Caudry (North) has been closed for a month and a half, Friday May 13th. It is here that the contaminated pizzas, which have sickened dozens of children, are said to have been produced. After the death of two children, the Paris prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation. A judge will lead an open investigation for manslaughter and involuntary injury, deception on goods, endangering others. These offenses are punishable by imprisonment.

“The victims are relieved and satisfied with this major step forward. Now we must go even further and obtain compensation”, says Richard Legrand, lawyer for victims. The investigation will have to determine how these pizzas were infected with Escherichia coli, a bacterium and whether the Caudry factory complied with hygiene standards. State inspectors had noted failures in 2021. For the moment, only Fraîch’up pizzas are concerned.
