A judicial investigation for homicide was opened on Monday, February 20, in Dunkirk (North) after the death, on February 14, of a migrant, killed by a bullet in the head in a camp in Loon-Plage, announced the wooden floor. “No arrests have been made at this stage” And “investigations are continuing on letters rogatory”, the Dunkirk prosecutor told AFP. Sébastien Piève specifies that “according to the first elements, the victim was born in 1989 in Iraq”.

The circumstances and motivations of the attacker remain to be determined. However, the facts “given the general context, could correspond to violent movements” observed “during the settling of accounts between smugglers”explained the prosecutor.

Witnesses heard

“Found seriously injured by another individual who called the emergency services, he was transported to the hospital where he was declared dead” during the day, said Sébastien Piève. “Several witnesses were heard”including a man “who introduced himself as his brother”. The investigation at this stage has enabled “to hypothesize that he was hit while he was in his tent”.
