Hyundai did a good job of launching the Palisade, which is among the best-selling three-row midsize SUVs and continues to collect honors, including best buy in the category (along with its cousin, the Kia Telluride) according to The Car Guide.
Despite its many qualities, fuel consumption leaves a little to be desired. The only engine available, a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre V6, burns an average of 11.2 L/100 km. However, there is hope on the horizon.
Various Korean media are reporting that the next-generation Palisade will go into production in early 2025 and it will offer an optional hybrid powertrain. Testing will begin later this year.
Instead of going the way of the Ford Explorer hybrid, which retains a V6, the Korean SUV would rather bet on a combination of a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (which we know well under the hood of the Santa pickup truck Cruz, for example) and an electric motor.
Hyundai North America executives have already said they’re open to the idea of a hybrid Palisade if consumers demand it. It would also be the perfect vehicle for families who are hesitant to make the transition to a 100% electric three-row Hyundai.
We remind you that the IONIQ 7, derived from the SEVEN concept (below), should arrive on the market at around the same time. This will be made in the USA.
As for the Palisade’s 3.8-litre V6, echoes from South Korea lead us to believe that it will be replaced by a turbocharged 3.5-litre V6, again in an effort to reduce fuel consumption. on a daily basis – at least in theory – in addition to increasing the torque.
It’s also reasonable to expect Kia to follow suit with a hybrid Telluride when the model is renewed. We can’t stop electrification! And by the way, don’t miss our numbers battle between the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and the Ford Explorer Hybrid.
