A hundred pigs died in the accident of a truck which overturned in Evriguet (Morbihan), Monday, October 10, AFP learned from the gendarmes.
The truck, which was carrying 193 pigs destined for the slaughterhouse, left the road around 7 a.m. The driver would have sought to avoid a vehicle, before overturning, according to the gendarmes of the Ploërmel company, confirming information from the site of the regional daily West France.
“Of the 193 pigs that were transported, 80 were alive before noon”declared the gendarmes, specifying that it “there is no third party victim and the driver is not injured”. “A hundred pigs were taken in by the rendering company, while 80 pigs were handed over to the slaughter company to see if their condition was compatible with slaughter”according to the same source. “The injured animals will not be able to be eaten. Among these 80 pigs, some were suffocating”explained the company.
