The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) expanded its voter base by recruiting 128 more journalists. It is now more than 300 members who will elect the nominees and the winners of the Golden Globes.
This announcement comes as the HFPA has faced criticism for several years due to the lack of diversity among its members, in particular. In 2021, the Los Angeles Times reported that no member of the organization was black, prompting a boycott of major Hollywood advertising firms.
Last year, 103 new journalists were recruited, of whom 87 will return to vote for the 2024 Golden Globes.
Of the 310 members who will vote for the upcoming ceremony, 25% are Latino, 14% Asian, 10% Black, 9% Middle Eastern and 42% White, according to the HFPA press release. . “At least 17% of voters identify as LGBTQIA+,” it adds.
The members of the HFPA, now representing 76 countries, are specialized journalists whose mandate is to determine the most deserving artists and craftsmen in the world of cinema each year.
