Three adults died in a plane crash in the middle of the Amazon jungle on May 1 in Colombia. The four children, left to themselves in this hostile environment, could have survived for more than two weeks. Traces of life were discovered by rescuers.
The Colombians call it “the miracle operation“. Across the vastness of the Amazon, a hundred soldiers are looking for four brothers and sisters who would have survived the crash of their plane, 17 days ago. The helicopters broadcast a recorded message by loudspeaker by their grandmother. Among the wanted children, the youngest is an 11-month-old baby. His mother did not survive, nor did the two other adults who were traveling.
Traces of life found
The family is from an indigenous community that resides in this part of the Amazon. A wild hope has taken hold of the whole country since the proofs of life were found by the rescuers, outside the perimeter of the crash. A pair of scissors and a bottle were found. Witnesses would have even seen them. The search is made very difficult by the density of the vegetation, the heavy rains and the presence of wild animals.
