At the end of Tuesday morning, an Enedis technician, who was working on electrical connections on rue de la Santé in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, discovered a tunnel dug by hand in the direction of the de la Santé prison, located 450 meters away, learned Wednesday April 3 from Franceinfo from a police source.

According to this source, it was an Enedis technician, which a spokesperson for the distribution network manager, contacted by AFP, disputed. “Enedis has no installations or work in progress at this location,” said this spokesperson.

In the tunnel being formed, bags filled with rubble and a bed were found. The tunnel extends from rue de la Santé, next to Sainte-Anne hospital and to Boulevard Auguste Blanqui. Paris town hall immediately called in teams to block access to the tunnel.

Contacted by franceinfo, the director of the Health prison, Bruno Clément-Petremann, evokes a tunnel of “5 meters”, which has, “a priori, nothing to do with prison, or an attempt to escape”. He recalls that work is very frequent in the neighborhood.
