Quebecer Mikaël Kingsbury signed his 87th World Cup victory during the individual moguls event on Thursday in Deer Valley, becoming the most victorious skier in history.
The athlete from Deux-Montagnes collected 82.17 points to obtain his 12e podium of the season. He beat the Japanese Ikuma Horishima (79.15) and the Swede Filip Gravenfors (78.80). Julien Viel (71.81) finished 12the rank.
“The conditions were complex during the finals with a little rain, a little snow and jumps that stuck, but we had the right strategies with my coach and my whole team. I’m really happy with the way I skied,” Kingsbury said of his performance.
Kingsbury thus overtook Ingemar Stenmark as the most successful skier in the World Cup in Olympic disciplines.
“An 87th victory. It’s just incredible, declared the Quebecer. I didn’t think about it all day until I saw the number 1 appear on the giant screen. I have no words. I am the male athlete in all sports in the FIS with the most World Cup victories. »
Kingsbury thus increased his lead at the top of the general classification. Horishima, however, is first in singles.
” I am getting closer. With one test to go and 30 points behind, the ball is in my court,” he said.
On the women’s side, Laurianne Desmarais-Gilbert (65.15) was the best Canadian, in eighth place, just ahead of her compatriot Maia Schwinghammer. The American Olivia Giaccio won the event.
