A high school student from Haute-Saône passes the baccalaureate at 14

She could get her baccalaureate before she turns fifteen. Odycée Durupt studies at Louis Aragon high school in Héricourt and will take her philosophy test this Wednesday morning and then her Grand Oral on Monday. And if she is the youngest candidate in France, in the middle of her revision sheets, she seems quite serene: “I think I have rather passed my specialty tests, even if you should not sell the skin of the bear before having killed it”.

With a general average of 13 in her first and final years, and correct marks in the French tests last year, she should logically obtain the diploma. She would then continue her studies with a degree in psychology at the University of Franche-Comté in Besançon.

Odycée skipped three classes because she was too bored

So much the better for the young girl who is not a big fan of the school: “I never aim for 20 out of 20, I don’t like school”. The consequence of many years of being bored in class because she was too early. Odycée could read at 3 and a half years old and skipped the big kindergarten section. Arrived in CE1, she already found the time long in class and at the end of the school year, she went directly to CM1.

Then in 4th grade, boredom again, except that her college wouldn’t let her skip a new class. “It was too easy, I was bored and so I never workedsays the girl. I told my mom that if that didn’t change, I would drop out of school because I was so bored.” Finally, in the middle of her 9th year, she went directly to second at Lycée Louis Aragon, after many steps from her parents who had to do the forcing but also several tests with psychologists. Result: 162 IQ for Odycée.

Badminton Miss and Champion

Today, the young girl seems more fulfilled and is eager to start a new chapter in Besançon. She then hopes to become a criminologist for the gendarmerie. A way to make sure to avoid routine in her work, something she couldn’t stand. Odycée also combines activities since she is Miss Franche-Comté for 13/15 year olds but also regional badminton champion for the under 17s. “I never do anythingshe explains. I mustn’t be bored, I need to clear my head. It’s relaxation but relaxation that moves. I don’t spend my weekend watching series in front of my computer, it’s not my type of life.”

In the Durupt family, we are well aware of precocity since Odycée’s two big brothers respectively skipped one and two classes. Same with six of his seven cousins. They consider that the reason could be genetic, especially since Odycée’s father was also ahead at school, but they have no proof.

And there could be another explanation, the education given to Odycée and his brothers by his parents: “We always talked to them like adultsexplains Corinne, their mother. We have always stimulated them when they were young, which perhaps makes this easy in terms of schooling. Our role as parents is to accompany them. We did not push them towards this or that path, we simply accompany them. We are lucky that they all knew what they wanted to do and we are very happy for them.”
