It’s a great adventure that started 7 months ago. Last March, Nicolas Souquet-Bressand, firefighter in Agde**, welcomed the young Nawadi into his family.** The child aged barely 5 arrives from the Comoros. He comes to France for sget treatment for a tumor in his neck. Everything is organized by the association “Hope for a Child”
which comes to the aid of young people affected by a serious pathology and who cannot be treated in their country.
Pay medical bills
At the beginning, Nawadi had to undergo a single operation, which took place at the end of April. Except that doctors have realized that it takes several, between 3 and 4, to completely remove the tumor. The second intervention took place this summer and another is scheduled for the end of the year. “It’s a benign tumorwould like to reassure Nicolas Souquet-Bressand. But it is very restrictive for Nawadi’s trachea and vocal cords. It has been gaining momentum since its birth. There is only one solution: pediatric surgery which he did not have in his country.”
Faced with the situation, Nicolas Souquet-Bressand had the idea of launching a raffle. “The objective is to help the association to pay additional medical expenses__.” The firefighter who lives in Montpellier then used his network and a surge of solidarity was created. “We are lucky to have prestigious partners like the MHSC who gave us a signed jersey. The boxer Mohamed Kani, the three-time French champion, gave us a signed glove. We also have first flights, 4×4 courses to be won. It’s a whole chain of solidarity that is created around the association.”
A surge of solidarity
The organization of the 10 km of Montpellier has also agreed to welcome Nicolas Souquet-Bressand and Nawadi this Sunday to promote the initiative. The firefighter will also leave with other firefighters from Hérault and Gard, as well as members of the municipal civil security reserve and the association. Nawadi will be positioned on a joëlette to cover the 10 km.
If you want to participate in the raffle, the ticket costs 2€. It can be found on the platform Helloasso
. “We want to collect as much as possible. Even if we exceed Nawadi’s costs, the money will go to other children who need to have surgery. I also take this opportunity to launch an appeal. The association is looking for host families, like us. If people want to get involved, it’s with great pleasure. Children are just waiting for that!” The raffle draw for Nawadi is scheduled for November 27.
