For months the residents of the neighborhood had been waiting impatiently for this day. That’s it, it has arrived. the Loubiere park in Toulouse, located in the district of the same name, was opened this Wednesday, in the presence of Hubert Falco, mayor and president of the metropolis. Several hundred people were also present for the occasion. This park replaces an industrial wasteland and for this project to see the light of day, the site had to be cleaned up for several months and 25,000 m3 of earth treated, the equivalent of 13 Olympic swimming pools.
Covering an area of one and a half hectares, there are:
- 250 trees, including a Moorish cork oak
- 10,000 shrubs and perennials
- 500 m2 of play areas for children (1 to 12 years old)
- A waterfall river
- Fountains
- A mirror of water
The park is supplied with water by a source discovered during the works
The park’s water consumption is largely supplied independently by the Saint-Philip spring which passes under the park. This spring fed the city until the 19th century and was found during the work. Rainwater is also collected in two underground retention basins. The Loubière park is energy self-sufficient thanks to the photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the technical rooms and the guards’ lodge.
To celebrate the inauguration of the park, activities are planned for children all day this Saturday, September 17. Since this Thursday, the park is open every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in summer and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in winter. In total, the city of Toulon has 84 parks, squares and gardens15,000 trees and 516 hectares of communal green spaces, including 140 hectares developed in urban areas.
