How to fight against the frost which strikes the vineyards almost every year and can spoil the harvest? Because sometimes simple candles are not enough, in Meursault in Saône-et-Loire, winegrowers have opted for a wind turbine heating system. #TheyHaveTheSolution

It is a recurring event. An icy cold can fall on the vines for a few days and compromise the future harvest. In Burgundy, winegrowers sought a new system to protect vulnerable buds from frostbite. They have invested in an innovative and efficient system.

It is a wind turbine which will fold the hot air on the cold ground and then we will couple with the wind turbine boilers which will send hot air.

Cost of this system: 60,000 euros excluding tax. A substantial sum but which is perhaps worth the effort for the large plots of prestigious appellation. The turbine can cover up to three hectares and can even be activated remotely with the help of a simple SIM card which alerts on start-up and sends a permanent reading of the temperature of the tower.

If these mobile and heating wind turbines are not aesthetic, they are on the other hand much more efficient than candles on large plots.

Implementing candles on 3 and a half hectares in one piece requires a lot of energy, a lot of candles and a lot of manpower.

These mobile wind turbines are the only ones authorized in this part of Burgundy whose wine-growing landscapes are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
