A total of 104 people died in Mexico between June 12 and 25 due to an extreme heat wave that hit the desert north and the capital. According to a Health Ministry report obtained by AFP on Thursday, June 29, most of the deaths were caused by heatstroke or dehydration.

The highest number of casualties was recorded in the industrial state of Nuevo Leon. Some 64 people lost their lives due to the climatic conditions in this territory of the North-East, located on the border with Texas.

This is the third episode of heat wave that has affected the country since the beginning of 2023. A record of 49°C was recorded at the end of June in the state of Sonora, also reports the government. At this time of the year, average temperatures fluctuate between 30 and 45°C in Mexico. A new heat wave could affect the country from July 1, according to the authorities.
