Some regions of Quebec will experience a major episode of heat from Monday to Wednesday, with temperatures approaching or exceeding 30°C, with warm nights as well. See which regions are affected.
High humidity levels will accompany the scorching mercury across much of the province.
Environment Canada (EC) has issued a special heat bulletin for certain regions:
LG Quatre – Laforge and Fontanges (Laurentians)
James Bay and La-Grande Rivers (Aitibi)
Waskaganish (Vaudreuil-Soulanges-Huntingdon)
However, temperatures should cool down from Thursday.
A special bulletin has also been issued regarding air quality for these regions:
James Bay and La-Grande Rivers (Aitibi)
Chibougamau (Abitibi)
Kuujjuarapik (Upper Gatineau – Hare – Papineau)
LG Quatre – Laforge and Fontanges (Laurentians)
Schefferville (Saguenay)
Umiujaq (Témiscamingue)
Waskaganish (Vaudreuil-Soulanges-Huntingdon)
On Monday, this heat surge will be accompanied by sunny spells, but the risk of thunderstorms will be present in the south and center of the province. In Montreal and its surroundings, Environment Canada predicts an alternation of sun and clouds with 28° on the thermometer, but the humidity will be close to 37°.
The same scenario is expected in the central sectors of the province, in particular in Quebec and in Estrie, where it will be 25° with a humidity of 33.
How to protect yourself from the effects of heat:
- Drink 6-8 glasses of water daily or as directed by your doctor;
- Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages;
- If you can, spend at least 2 hours a day in an air-conditioned or cool place;
- Take at least one cool shower or bath a day or refresh your skin several times a day with a wet towel;
- Reduce physical exertion;
- Wear light clothing;
- Make sure you never leave a child, a baby alone in a car or a badly ventilated room, even for a few minutes;
- Check in on your loved ones, especially those who are losing their autonomy or who live alone.
