The national Intersyndicale des interns is calling for a strike this Friday to denounce the working conditions and salaries of young doctors.
“In terms of working time, we exceed the European legal threshold which is 48 hours per week”, explains Guillaume Bailly, intern in cardiovascular medicine, in Paris, first vice-president of the ISNI, the National Intersyndicale of interns, while hospital interns are called to strike on Friday April 28 to defend their working conditions. work that they consider degraded. They denounce extended days and too low wages.
franceinfo: Will the strikers treat the sick despite everything?
Guillaume Bailly: The idea is that interns don’t show up for work. We call for medical interns not to perform their duties today. This means putting on an armband for those who wish, but above all being outside the services above all.
What are your demands?
The interns are at least bac +6 and we provide this work for a salary of 6.40 euros gross per hour. This calculation is reported on the hourly working time which sometimes exceeds 100 hours per week. We are asking for a significant increase in salaries, 300 euros gross per month, which would allow us to catch up on the delay that we have at this level. In terms of working time, we exceed the European legal threshold which is 48 hours per week. In the absence of a reliable and accessible count, we cannot count the hourly time precisely and we do not know what is the hourly volume that we exercise each week.
What does the working time of each intern depend on?
It depends on the establishments, the services, the workload. The simple fact that we are asking the question illustrates the fact that there are no tools that allow us to do the count. We are paid on the threshold of 48 hours. If I spend 100 hours a week, I will be paid 48 hours. So I can do an extra unpaid week.
“Working conditions are extremely precarious for all interns.”

What are you asking?
To comply with what the law provides. The Council of State issued a decision in June 2022 which summons all the CHUs to set up this tool to make a time count for interns. The services are not ready to set up this tool because nothing is planned. It is up to the medical affairs department to deal with it. A healthcare system without interns does not work.
