A hate factory running at full steam

October 7: horror falls on Israel, the Hamas attack is universally condemned. Terrorism at its extreme: 1200 dead, 240 hostages. The source is known: the untenable situation of the Palestinians since 1948. Israel’s response is immediate: Hamas must be destroyed. His dream: once Hamas is destroyed, Israelis and Palestinians will be able to live in peace, side by side.

So we start bombing. The targets are military, but civilians are quickly affected. We aim first for the north, but soon for the south too. At the end of November, a truce: 110 hostages are released. End of the truce: the bombings begin again, every day, relentlessly. For 80 days, more than 20,000 deaths. For the moment, the military failure is obvious: Hamas is still present, no hostages have been released to date by the army.

Conclusion: the war will have to last several more months. We bomb every day. Soon there will be nothing left of Gaza. There is even talk of building Jewish colonies there. Long term consequence? On a material level, it will be necessary to rebuild. We will be called upon, and we will contribute: the material can be rebuilt. On a spiritual level, however, the damage is irreparable. Every bomb thrown at a building is a stone added to the edifice of hatred. The Palestinians in Gaza are bombed because they live near Hamas: by force of circumstances, they become identified with it. The hate factory is running at full steam.

The war will end one day; the virus of hatred will remain deeply rooted. Inevitable consequence: alas, there will be other October 7ths…
