“A happy man”, a comedy that explores the question of transidentity in the couple

Directed by Tristan Séguéla, A happy man, in theaters Wednesday, February 15, is the story of an established couple, a little plan plan, formed by a traditional husband and a submissive wife. Until the day when Edith announces to Jean a news that she can no longer hide: “I am a man, and always have been.” Edith therefore reveals to Jean that she is about to begin her transition.

“They reinvent their lives”

Transidentity as a scenario for a comedy, or how to make people smile with this still taboo social subject. The family will be upset, and the husband will do everything to hide this secret. “This secret will turn everything upside down and will make a new life possible for two. I think that’s what is also very stimulating in what happens to the characters in the film, they reinvent their lives”, explains Tristan Séguéla, the director. Jean is the mayor of a small town, so what people will say frightens him; he is ultra-conservative. Edith represents, for her part, a world that has changed. “The trans movement demands to be recognized, respected and visible”says Catherine Frot.
