A collective that doesn’t move. Didier Deschamps revealed, Thursday March 14, his list of 23 names for the Blues’ next friendly matches, against Germany and Chile. A little over three months before the Euro, the French coach continued, with a group very similar to that of the last gathering, last November. Here’s what to remember from this list.

A group with no big surprises

You don’t change a team that’s doing well. For his last list before the Euro in Germany this summer, Didier Deschamps has, unsurprisingly, built his group around his executives. Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud among the attackers, the new last bulwark Mike Maignan in the goals, or the Hernandez brothers are obviously in the game.

Absent from the last rally due to injury, Benjamin Pavard returns to the group, just like the young Warren Zaire-Emery (18 years old), who had to leave the group just after scoring against Gibraltar. In view of the Euro, the coach assured to hold a “hard core in their early twenties [de joueurs]if there is no physical problem”for its Euro list, which should be revealed in mid-May.

Moussa Diaby back a year later

This is perhaps the only surprise on this list. While he was not part of the last rallies, Aston Villa player Moussa Diaby was called up by the staff of the France team, while Kingsley Coman had to withdraw due to injury. “He achieved great things in the selection, it seemed logical to me to recall Moussa.” justified Didier Deschamps. With his club, he played 39 matches this season, for six goals and seven assists, but lost his starting place in recent weeks.

It’s been a year since the PSG-trained striker has not worn the international jersey, since a Euro qualifier match in Ireland, in Dublin, on March 27, 2023 (1-0 victory). He came on in place of Olivier Giroud shortly after the hour mark.

Bradley Barcola absent

His name has come up a lot in recent days to possibly join the France group. Author of a satisfactory start to the season with PSG, where he arrived this summer, Bradley Barcola (21 years old) will still wait before receiving his first call-up with the A. “He is one of the players we follow. With the series of matches recently where he has done great things, he needs to confirm and assert himself, more in the content”explained the coach.

Regularly called up with the France Espoirs team in 2023, Bradley Barcola could once again be part of Thierry Henry’s list, which must be revealed this afternoon.
