In Martinique, a grocery store sells products at low prices that are shunned by large retailers because of expiry dates. A godsend for more and more consumers.

More 20kg food, including 5kg still perfectly wrapped, going in the trash. This is the average per person per year of food waste. Shops and producers are not spared. Products that are still consumable are no longer sold. But they finally found takers in an anti-waste grocery store. The prices there are 40 to 60% cheaper. For consumers, once the use-by date has been mastered, it is only profit.

“Why spend more if you can have the same qualities at a lower price?”, says a customer. “We need it, the salary does not follow and everything has increased so it will help a lot of people”continues another. Large retailers can also find their account because destroying unsold items requires logistics. “To limit their losses, they call on us”Explain Leila Maurice, founder and manager of the anti-waste grocery store. She also plans to expand her sales area.
