The Girondins de Bordeaux will not be demoted to National 1. The Executive Committee of the French Football Federation authorized this Wednesday the Bordeaux club to play in Ligue 2. “A huge relief that punctuates two extremely trying months”, confides Florian Brunet, the spokesperson for the Ultramarines supporters.
If the Marines and Whites escape administrative demotion to National 1, “we went so far as to consider the worst”. The sanction of the DNCG would have been synonymous with bankruptcy for the club. “An emotional disaster for millions of supporters, for the ecosystem of the club, its employees, for the city, it was humanly very very delicate. Today is a huge relief.”says Florian Brunet.
The sacred union has paid off
The leader of the Ultramarines supporters believes that the general mobilization around the Girondins has tipped the balance in their favor. Florian Brunet quotes in particular the great demonstration of July 9 in Bordeaux where “politicians from all sides, former players, players, supporters, club management, nearly 4,000 people, [se sont rassemblés] behind the same banner”.
