Live from London, journalist Valéry Lerouge explains that “Britons are called upon to donate their time for charity. 6 million of them have planned to do so, in particular to pay tribute to Charles III who, for many decades, before becoming king, devoted his time to associations”.
A golden parenthesis in a very difficult social context
No major hitch came to taint this weekend of festivity, apart from the rainy weather on Saturday. “The parade and ceremony went exactly as planned, and the royal family’s conflicts were handled rather skillfully.”, explains the journalist. Some left-wing newspapers nevertheless deplore the arrest of 52 anti-monarchist and environmental activists. For others, these three days have taken on the appearance of a golden break in a difficult time, where inflation is undermining the daily life of the British.
