The crisis at the public hospital continues with more and more caregivers throwing in the towel. Conversely, a doctor in the private sector has choose to lend strong hand to his colleagues at the Timone hospital in Marseille.
When many leave the public hospital, a doctor has chosen to return there. “I had been offered several things in private or liberal in July. I hadn’t chosen yet so I hadn’t planned anything, and when my colleagues told me about their difficulties, I came to help“, explains the general practitioner Amine Ayari. He knows well the hospital Timone in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhone) because he was an intern there two years ago, during the Covid.
With the team, Amine Ayari manages 19 beds for patients discharged from the emergency room. “If they couldn’t get into this unit, they were waiting on stretchers in the emergency room.“, says the head of the service. The 29-year-old general practitioner is also very active on social networks. Currently, he is paid 30 euros per hour in the public. In private,it was two or three more“, he says. Without a replacement, the short-stay emergency unit will have to close again for several weeks.
