Clashes took place on Thursday, January 20, between police and demonstrators in Guadeloupe. A policeman was shot and wounded. Six people were arrested.

It was a night of violence that hit Guadeloupe on Thursday, January 20. Fires, looting, but also shots fired by the demonstrators. A policeman was shot. His vital prognosis is not engaged. All night, firefighters had to fight fires on buildings, like in Pointe-à-Pitre. The damage, for some, is considerable. “I thought I was going to die, I can’t believe it”, says a resident.

Four jewelry stores were robbed, two of which were set on fire. For the inhabitants, it is misunderstanding. “It’s a strike against the vaccination obligation and the health pass. I don’t see the connection with burning down a store”, says a woman. During the day, many filter dams dot the roads… making some access difficult. The demonstrators claim to remain mobilized and want to amplify the movement next week.
