In Poitiers, the city has created a pollinarium, a sort of garden which allows the periods of pollen emission to be monitored in real time. In the event of an alert, sensitive people are directly informed.

At first glance, it’s a garden like any other. But the plants located south of Poitiers (Vienne) are the most allergenic in the region. This is called a pollinarium. Jean-Philippe Bremand, responsible for green spaces at Blossac Park, has the task of observing the species every morning. Even the blades of grass are examined closely. “It’s an extraordinary tool, we can warn people who are allergic to the start of an emission”comments Jean-Philippe Bremand.

To be able to protect oneself

Allergist offices are always full. A man allergic to pollen comes to do some tests. He received the latest alerts from the pollinarium on his phone. “It’s practical, so you can know when to anticipate to take antihistamines or protect yourself and not go out too much when there are big outbreaks of pollen”he explains. Isabelle Bossé, allergist in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), uses the tool every day to carry out her diagnoses.
