Since 2015, despite the measures put in place by politicians to end wage inequality between women and men, the gaps have persisted, and even more, have widened. Explanations.

Wednesday, November 3, since 9:22 a.m., women have been working for free in France, if we take into account wage inequalities. The calculation was made by a feminist collective, Les Glorieuses, which relied on European statistics to establish this symbolic schedule. “The gap is 16.5% in 2021, which is not nothing. In other words, for an equal position and equal skills, a woman receives 16.5% less than a man”, explains journalist Manon Bougault on the 1pm set.

In 2020, the gap stood at 15.5%. Pay inequality therefore continues to widen between women and men, for several reasons, starting with the time spent in a company. “Women are much more often part-time than men, but it is also linked to the job held. Women occupy less socially valued positions, and therefore less well paid, according to the Les Glorieuses collective”, explains Manon Bougault. There is also pure discrimination, since in some societies, positions of responsibility entrusted to women are sometimes less well paid than if they were allocated to men.
