The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated on Sunday October 30 that a national French died and two others were injured in the stampede in Seoul the day before. On the spot, the journalist Hakim Abdelkhalek takes the pulse of the situation in South Korea.

According to the South Korean Ministry of the Interior, on Sunday October 30, 22 foreigners died as a result of yesterday’s events. Among them, a Frenchman lost his life during the tragedy. “His death has been confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, says journalist Hakim Abdelkhalek, present in Seoul. Two other French people were injured, but are currently out of danger. The Quai d’Orsay maintained that these two French nationals had been released from hospital.

“Quickly, the entire Franco-Korean community mobilized. In particular, the House of commerce which has set up an emergency number”, explains the journalist. The French Embassy asks citizens present on site to get in touch with it if necessary. The whole neighborhood is transformed on Sunday 30 October. “Restaurants, bars, usually, are full even on Sunday evening. Now, here, the streets are deserted”says Hakim Abdelkhalek.
