A Frenchman at the helm of CF Montreal?

Coach Laurent Courtois would be one of the candidates to obtain the vacant CF Montreal pilot position, it seems.

On Monday, journalist from The Athletic site Tom Bogert claimed that the former French midfielder had had a job interview with the staff of the Bleu-Blanc-Noir.

Courtois is currently the head coach of the Columbus Crew 2, the Ohio team’s reserve team. The 45-year-old led his team to an MLS Nest Pro championship in 2022 and reached the developmental circuit finals in 2023.

Before making the jump to coaching, the native of Lyon evolved as a player. He played for several French clubs and a few European teams before finding himself in Major League Soccer (MLS). Courtois played for Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy in North America. He hung up his crampons in 2014.

CF Montreal fired head coach Hernan Losada at the end of the 2023 campaign, less than a year after he was hired. The Argentinian was the ninth driver in the Belle Province team since it made its MLS debut in 2012. The others were Jesse Marsch, Marco Schällibaum, Frank Klopas, Mauro Biello, Rémi Garde, Wilmer Cabrera, Thierry Henry and Wilfried Nancy.
