French astronaut Sophie Adenot will be the first of the new class of European astronauts to fly to the international space station (ISS). Takeoff planned for spring 2026.

The European Space Agency announced this Wednesday, May 2: Sophie Adenot gets her ticket to space. It is a trip planned for 2026 alongside a Belgian astronaut towards the international space station. “Of course this announcement came very quickly, a bit like a surprise, I am delighted and very honored”, she rejoiced. Just one month after obtaining her astronaut diploma, Sophie Adenot will become the second French woman to go into space.

On his social networks, the President of the Republic reacted and congratulated the former air force pilot. “Happy for her and proud for France”, notably wrote Emmanuel Macron. A long preparation now begins for Sophie Adenot: two years mainly in the swimming pool during which the astronaut will have to learn to master 15,000 procedures to finally fly to the stars.
