Consistency is essential when demonstrating for a cause. Last weekend in Ontario, a convoy from the West, obviously associated with the truckers’ demonstration several months ago in Ottawa, came to support Dutch farmers in their fight against more environmental laws of their government, again in the name of freedom. Protesters fear that similar laws will be introduced in Canada.
So where is the inconsistency? These protesters are supposedly defending the agricultural industry, which is however dependent on a healthy environment and a nature in good condition. Agriculture is a vital economic sector, of course, but like all industries, it is not immune to regulatory change over time that would serve to adapt it to new realities. […]
Is this a prelude to demonstrations of the kind against any law aimed at combating global warming, which is becoming a glaring problem everywhere, except for these people? Freedom, I chant your name, opposing myself to nature which nevertheless grants me this freedom…
