A Franco-Israeli soldier was killed by “friendly fire” in the occupied West Bank

A 20-year-old IDF soldier was killed by “friendly fire” in the northern occupied West Bank, the Israeli army announced on Tuesday (August 16th). Natan Fitoussi had arrived from France in Israel in 2014 with his family, told AFP an official of the town hall of the Israeli city of Netanya, in the west of the country, where he resided.

He was killed on Monday evening by Israeli army fire near the West Bank town of Tulkarem, the army said in a statement, without detailing the circumstances of the young man’s death. She had first reported Monday evening of a shooting near Tulkarem, before retracting herself, and declaring to be in the process of “reviewing the incident”, without elaborating. The West Bank is a Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 by the Israeli army.

On Twitter, the Israeli Prime Minister saluted the memory of the soldier. Yair Lapid said have “broken heart” and sent his condolences to his family.

Sergeant Natan Fitoussi was posthumously promoted to master sergeant, the army said, adding that it had opened an investigation into the exact circumstances that led to the soldier’s death.
