“A Foul Form”, Osees | The duty

We weren’t expecting that one. The Californians Osees deviate from the rock-garage-psychedelic sound of their opulent discography — A Foul Form is their 26e album in 25 years of career! — to pay homage “to the punk bands we grew up with”, comments guitarist and singer John Dwyer, who sings in a particularly cantankerous tone on the ten songs (garroché in 22 minutes!) of the album. And obviously, these musicians were brought up on 1980s hardcore (and on The Jamtheir version of the theme of Batman serves as a model for Perm Act), a sound they interpret in their own psychedelic way, with mind-blowing guitar sounds passed through effects pedals that probably didn’t exist 40 years ago. These give a lot of relief to the repertoire presented: it sounds like an alarm siren on the title song, or a goat being slaughtered on the furious Frock Block. A muddy rock record, with disgusting titles (Too Late for Suicide, social-butt, fuck kill me), which causes an adrenaline rush with each listening.
