a former medical school student sentenced to five years in prison for sexual assault

The 26-year-old man was found guilty of sexual assault committed in 2017, 2018 and 2020 on two former comrades.

A former medical student at the medical faculty of Tours, in Indre-et-Loire, was sentenced this Tuesday March 19 to five years in prison for sexual assault, reports France Bleu Touraine. A complaint of rape was reclassified as sexual assault, to allow a trial to be held more quickly, specifies France Bleu Touraine.

Now a medical intern in Limoges, in Haute-Vienne, this 26-year-old man was found guilty by the Tours criminal court of sexual assault on two former comrades. During his trial in February, the prosecution requested four years in prison, including one year.

“The point of this sentence is that we won’t see you here again.”, the president of the court told him on Tuesday. Justice took into account his confessions to sexual assaults committed in 2017, 2018 and 2020. The defendant had mentioned excessive consumption of alcohol in the evening to try to justify himself.

An obligation of care is attached to his sentence. Registered in the register of perpetrators of sexual offenses, he must report his address every six months. He is prohibited from having contact with the two victims, to whom he must pay 15,000 euros in damages.

Five women filed complaints against him

In total, five young women filed complaints against him. Two dismissals were pronounced. Finally, he was sentenced in December 2023, by the children’s judge, to four months in prison, suspended, for a first sexual assault committed in 2013. He was then a minor.

This affair caused a lot of noise at the Tours medical faculty in April 2022. Collages were posted on the walls of the faculty: “Today your rapist, tomorrow your doctor”“Here are trained and protected from rapists” or even “Student, not piece of meat”. A group criticized the university management for not having initiated disciplinary proceedings against the student.
