Claude Vadeboncoeur, former adviser for the United Nations (UN) in terms of security, will be the candidate of the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) in the riding of Brome-Missisquoi, has learned The duty.
A former Canadian Armed Forces officer, Mr. Vadeboncoeur is joining Dominique Anglade’s team for the next elections, confirmed the PLQ. He has been back in Estrie for about 10 years, after having participated in five peacekeeping operations and having worked at the UN as well as in the private sector for fifteen years.
Claude Vadeboncoeur will be formalized as the candidate of the Liberal Party of Quebec in Brome-Missisquoi, in Knowlton, this Thursday. Currently, the riding is represented by Caquist Isabelle Charest, Minister responsible for the Status of Women. She had won 44.38% of the vote ahead of the liberal Ingrid Marini (24.2%), the solidarity Alexandre Legault (17.28%) and the PQ Andréanne Larouche (10.72%).
Until the last election, MP Pierre Paradis had represented the voters of Brome-Missisquoi without interruption since 1980. Elected under the Liberal banner, he was however excluded from caucus in 2017 due to allegations of sexual misconduct. He was able to rejoin the PLQ in August 2018, since the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions did not file charges against him. Mr. Paradis had not sought a new mandate.
