The general director of Canal+ France, Gérald-Brice Viret, denounced, on Wednesday July 24, a form of “contempt for the public”following the “unprecedented decision” from Arcom “withdraw its frequency” TNT to C8, a subsidiary of the audiovisual group, in 2025. “How can we understand this unprecedented decision in the history of TNT with regard to a channel which contributed to its popularity?” wondered about X the leader, saying to himself “like many, in shock”.
NRJ12 denounces an “incomprehensible decision” by Arcom. “NRJ Group has just learned of the incomprehensible decision of Arcom made today”the group wrote in its press release. “NRJ Group is already studying possible appeals at this stage of the procedureit is also specified, adding, “in any event, if this pre-selection decision were to be confirmed (…), NRJ Group would then exercise the necessary remedies.”
The left rejoices, the far right denounces a coup pdeprived of freedom of expression. “Not everything is allowed in France. Arcom selects projects from the Ouest-France group and billionaire Daniel Kretinsky. The audiovisual policeman based his decision on “the interest of each project for the public with regard to the priority imperative of pluralism of socio-cultural currents of expression”the press release states.
CNews also pre-selected. Conversely, the news channel CNews, regularly called to order by Arcom and owned, like C8, by the Canal+ group, in the hands of conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré, has been selected for a renewal of its frequency.
