The life of a professional footballer often feels like a dream. Paid millions of euros for the most talented, they live off their passion and are adored around the world. What to lead a quiet life, under the spotlight and far from legal problems. For some, however, despite this comfortable life, they are not immune to legal problems. This is the case of Quincy Promes, Dutch international of 29 years who will have to face the justice of his country soon.
“The Amsterdam Public Prosecutor’s Office has decided to prosecute a 29-year-old man from Amsterdam (…) for attempted murder and aggravated assault”, said the Amsterdam prosecutor’s office in a statement. If the name of the accused is not given, for the Dutch media, there is no doubt that it is Quincy Promes, who is currently playing at Spartak Moscow. The latter was arrested in December 2020 for a stabbing assault following a fight with one of his cousins. The victim “was seriously injured in the knee” at the end of July 2020 during a family reunion in the city of Abcoude, not far from Amsterdam.
At the material time, the player was still playing in the Netherlands at the time of this altercation. Released after two days of interrogation, he quickly refuted any involvement in the affair. “Promes formally denies the accusation. He was not at the scene at the time of the stabbing”, assured his lawyer at the time for the Dutch Agency ANP. If he rejects the charges against him, Quincy Promes nevertheless intends to cooperate “fully in the investigation”.
