The incident occurred at the 45e minute of play, when Davies tried to steal the ball from Jude Bellingham. The English midfielder used his body to protect the ball and he kicked it on the fly with his right foot to try to pivot and drive it away from the Canadian.

Davies headed the ball, but Bellingham’s foot hit his face and not the object. The 21-year-old Albertan dropped to the lawn holding his face.

Davies received treatment and was helped off the field before the end of the half. The Bayern Munich player looked tottering on his feet.

There was no immediate information on the extent of the injury from Davies, who did not return to action.

Borussia Dortmund came from behind to tie the game 2-2 with a 74-minute goale and at the 90e minute.
