The French comedy “Hawaii” is released this Wednesday, May 10 on the screens. It tells the story of a group of friends played by Manu Payet, Bérénice Béjo, Nicolas Duvauchelle and Élodie Bouchez, who think they are living their last moments on an island.

What would you say to your friends if you only have an hour to live? The truth is sometimes risky, and in “Hawaii”, everyone will go there with their revelation. They have a week left to spend together, and it promises to be complicated. “All that was said there was a mini bomb thrown everywhere. The island didn’t explode, but the gang of friends…”comments Manu Payet, one of the actors.

The film inspired by a true-false missile scare

The film is inspired by a real-false alarm. In 2018, residents of Hawaii received a message alerting them that a North Korean missile was heading for their island. The director, Melissa Drigeard, added her own experience of a camera between friends. “We went to Hawaii, and then we found ourselves in confinement. (…) We wrote Hawaii in confinement, with friends, in the countryside”, she says. Due to the pandemic, filming took place in Reunion. If the holidays start badly, Hawaii is indeed a comedy, where friendship resists all tests.
