The 54-year-old woman was found in this Toyota, in front of a Desjardins caisse, in Longueuil.

This was reported yesterday by the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Department (SPAL), more than 24 hours after the lifeless body was found in a blue Toyota.

This is the first confirmed murder to occur in Quebec since the start of 2022.

It was a passer-by who had made the macabre discovery, around 1:20 p.m., in a commercial parking lot on Boulevard Roland-Therrien, on the South Shore of Montreal, in front of a Desjardins caisse.

According to several witnesses, the woman had her throat slit.

The SPAL had also confirmed Wednesday that the body of the fifty-year-old bore signs of violence. But at this time, the hypothesis of a suicide was not ruled out.

The police force was not, however, in a position, Thursday evening, to publicly provide further details concerning the link between the victim and the person who took his life. So far, no suspect has been arrested.

Several businesses, such as Harvey’s restaurants and Barbies resto bar grill are located in the area. Thus, investigators had to spy on the surveillance cameras of these establishments in order to shed light on the violent event.

Tragic year

In 2021, never had so many women been killed in the Belle Province for 13 years. No less than 26 women were murdered last year, the vast majority of them in a marital context.

The wave of feminicides has also rocked Quebec and pushed the government to introduce the wearing of an anti-reconciliation bracelet, from next spring, for perpetrators of domestic violence.
