a first vaccine against bronchiolitis soon on the market

With the arrival of the cold, it is the fear of any young parent. Bronchiolitis, this dangerous respiratory disease for infantss, affects 30 million babies worldwide each year. Among pediatricians, the announcement of a preventive treatment is a real source of hope. “Every winter we are with hundreds of children with serious forms, who have to be hospitalized, sometimes even in intensive care. This disease is very debilitating for the children, for the parents, for the entire healthcare system”says Christèle Gras-Le Guen, president of the French Society of Pediatrics.

A subject of intensive research since the 1960s, this vaccine, developed in partnership with AstraZeneca, will tackle the leading cause of hospitalization of newborns. This treatment will not be available this winter. The European Commission must validate the authorization for its placing on the markete, ahead of its expected release next year.
