After three months away from the cameras and his people, King Charles III took his first walkabout on Tuesday April 30. A highly anticipated appearance by the monarch suffering from cancer. Himself undergoing treatment, he chose for the occasion to visit patients in a center specializing in cancerology. He appears smiling and listening for almost 40 minutes. His return relieves the Londoners stationed in front of Buckingham Palace: “It’s great, it shows that he’s doing better, I hope. It makes us happy”.

“A person who likes to be active”

Last January, during a prostate operation, King Charles’ doctors diagnosed him with cancer. He must then withdraw from public life for three months. Only a few private visits with its highest officials will be authorized. “50% of his role, as a monarch, is to show himself, to be present in the life of the nation. Being prevented from doing so annoyed him, because he is a person who likes to be active”, explains Alastair Bruce, specialist in the British monarchy. A month ago, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, also announced that she was suffering from cancer. She is now undergoing treatment.
