A first PGA title for Stephan Jaeger, who wins the Houston Open

(Houston) Stephan Jaeger won his first PGA title at his 135e attempt on Sunday, concluding his last round at the Houston Open with nine consecutive pars to sign a final card of 67.

Scottie Scheffler (68) was trying to become the first PGA golfer in seven years to win three tournaments in a row, but missed a 5-foot putt for birdie on the final hole. He therefore finished one stroke behind the winner.

Jaeger, a 34-year-old German, will participate in the Masters Tournament for the first time in his career by virtue of this victory. He finished with a cumulative score of 268 (minus-12).

“I just tried to stay within my limits,” Jaeger said. Birdies escaped me on the back nine. But this course is difficult, especially when you are near the lead. I’m just super happy. »

There was a five-way tie in the lead going into the fourth round. Scheffler, Alejandro Tosti (68) and Thomas Detry (68) all finished in second place. David Skinns (69) slipped to seventh place.

Mackenzie Hughes (65) signed the best Canadian result, at 272 (minus-8), at 14e step. Ben Silverman (70) fell 14 positions and finished 36eat 277 (minus-3), tied with his compatriot Taylor Pendrith (68).

Roger Sloan (68) is in 45e place at 278 (minus-2). Adam Svensson (73) is 57e in the final ranking at 280 (N).
