A first member union of the Autonomous Education Federation (FAE) announces that its members have voted in favor of the agreement in principle concluded with the government of Quebec.
At the start of the night, Thursday, the Pointe-de-l’Île Education Union (SEPÎ), in Montreal, announced on social networks that its members present at the extraordinary general meeting the day before were 58.5% were in favor of accepting the agreement in principle between the FAE and the government.
Delegates from the union, which represents 4,384 teachers at the Pointe-de-l’Île School Service Center, in the east of the metropolis, had nevertheless recommended the rejection of the agreement.
The Autonomous Federation of Education recommends ratifying the agreement, but certain local union leaders have indicated that they do not intend to follow suit.
It is expected that the FAE union members of the school service centers of Montreal and Laval will in turn speak out on Thursday evening, at a general assembly.
The agreement concluded between the FAE and the government provides for salary increases of up to 24% over five years.
The FAE brings together nine unions which represent more than 66,500 teachers in preschool, primary, secondary, prison education, vocational training and adult education, above all.
