The new mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, had a first one-hour meeting with his counterpart from the metropolis, Valérie Plante, Monday morning in a Montreal café. Both insisted on the necessary collaboration between the two largest Municipalities in Quebec.
“Our collaboration is only just beginning. Our cities play very important roles in the development of Quebec. I am happy to see that our Capitale-Nationale and our Metropolis will work together. Thank you, ”Mr. Marchand tweeted, accompanying his tweet with a photo of the two leaders laughing heartily.
Asked by the Journal about this tête-à-tête which had not been announced beforehand, the mayor of Quebec responded with this statement: “Very happy with this first meeting with the mayor of Montreal. Our collaboration is off to a good start and I look forward to delving into the issues affecting our cities. Our discussion this morning confirms the need for our Capitale-Nationale and our metropolis to work together and it is in this spirit that we are at the moment, in particular on issues of housing, the climate crisis and mobility ”.
For her part, Valérie Plante also published a tweet arguing that “the two largest cities in Quebec have a role to play in accelerating the ecological transition, and in ensuring an optimal quality of life for Quebecers. I am sure that Bruno Marchand and I will work together to ensure that our two cities lead the way ”.
