Dutch swimmer from Montpellier, Sharon Van Rouwendaal, won the gold medal this Saturday in the 5km open water at the European Championships in Rome. She will set off, this Sunday, towards a new double, with the desire to also retain her title in the 10km.

After Glasgow in 2018 and Budapest in 2020, here is Rome in 2022. Sharon Van Rouwendaal retains her gold medal in the 5km at the European Championships.

The Dutch swimmer licensed at MUC Natation, in Montpellierbeat the Spanish Maria De Valdes Alvarez and the Italian Giulia Gabbrielleschi, while the first French, Aurélie Muller, won sixth place.

At sea, off Ostia in Lazio, Sharon Van Rouwendaal swam in 56 minutes, 58 seconds and 7 hundredths. She dominated the entire race before managing a short lead: less than two seconds, at the finish, over her two pursuers.

The 28-year-old will try to do just as well this Sunday and also keep his gold medal there on the queen event, the 10kmacquired during the last two editions.
