This weekend the first world fry championship is being held. And it is in Arras, in Pas-de-Calais, that it is held. So how do you recognize a good fry?

He is the very first world champion of authentic fries, a coronation full of emotion on the Grand-Place of Arras, for this restaurateur from Lille who wins with his tuber recipe, cooked in oil then in beef fat. “It’s a nice conclusion for a tiring day, it rewards all the work I do every day at the chip shop”, rejoiced Aurèle Mestrethe new world champion in the authentic category of fries.

Faced with their fryer all day, 32 candidates competed in four categories. Everyone chose their own potatoes and oil. One hour for peeling, cutting and frying potatoes. Competitors from Canada, Belgium ou from Japan were present to bring their know-how and try to win. A competition but also a show for the visitors, who were able to taste the fries.
