A first boat bringing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip unloaded its cargo on Friday March 15. Another ship is due to leave Cyprus on Saturday evening.
In pallets, the first meals, the first food delivered by boat, arrived in Gaza. Having left Cyprus four days earlier, the humanitarian aid ship Open Arms arrived on Friday March 15. He was inspected and escorted by Israeli forces. To accommodate it, a floating jetty was built in a few days. Aid is being delivered by sea for the first time. 200 tons of food, such as rice, flour and canned goods, were unloaded.
Displaced Palestinians threatened by famine
Prepared by the American NGO World Central Kitchen, the shipment was impatiently awaited by displaced Palestinians, threatened by famine. “I want help for my children, I want them to live and not starve. They only eat wild plants.”, confides a man. This first shipment was transferred to around ten trucks. It will be distributed to residents of the northern Gaza Strip. The American association is already preparing a second boat of 240 tonnes of food aid. They hope to bring food aid every week from this new maritime corridor.
