A fire rages in a building in Plateau-Mont-Royal

Several homes were evacuated when a fire broke out Sunday evening in a commercial and residential building located on Saint-Denis Street, in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, in Montreal.

The alert was given shortly before 9 p.m. for the blaze that took place on the 1st floor of the building located at 4268, rue Saint-Denis, said Stéphanie Lorrain, head of the prevention section of the Montreal Fire Department (SIM).

About fifty firefighters were on site to try to control the fire, which did not spread to other floors.

Residents of the apartments on the two upper floors were evacuated as a preventive measure.

The section head took the opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of checking the correct functioning of smoke alarms in the accommodation.
