A fire puts a family on the street in Longueuil

A family finds themselves on the street after a fire in their residence Thursday morning in Greenfield Park, on the South Shore of Montreal.

The fire, obviously of accidental origin, broke out around 4 a.m. in a two-storey residential building located on Terrasse-Beck, near Coote Street.

The flames were quickly brought under control by firefighters dispatched in large numbers to the scene of the disaster, but the building suffered damage estimated at more than $50,000.

The two adults and three children who were inside were evacuated and no one was injured, said a spokesperson for the Longueuil fire department.

The victims who will not be able to return to their residence immediately were taken care of by the Red Cross which was on the spot, it was added.
