A “major fire” near the tracks caused, on Sunday December 31, an interruption of rail traffic for several hours between Bordeaux (Gironde) and Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), announced the SNCF. Delays reached up to 5:30 a.m. during this weekend, ranked among the busiest of the year. After the setbacks of the Eurostar on Saturday, this time it was an electrical transformer fire that occurred in the morning between Colayrac and Agen (Lot-et-Garonne) which caused major disruptions a few hours before New Year’s Eve.
After repairs, traffic began to gradually resume around 3:15 p.m., a spokesperson for the railway company told AFP. “Trains will run at reduced speed in the area because the signaling equipment is not fully operational following the damage”she added, specifying that a return to normal could occur “by the end of the day”.
